Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the association between physical activity during leisure time (PALT) by parents and children in Londrina, PR. The study included 630 subjects (224 adolescents, 222 mothers and 184 fathers). A questionnaire was used. A significant association between the PALT of the father and the PALT of the adolescents was found. When the age groups were separated, a significant association between the PALT of the father and the PALT of the older adolescents was observed. The conclusion is that the PALT of parents had a moderately association to the PALT of their children, especially in the relationship between father and son. Strategies to promote physical activity should get a family approach.
